Dispatch Board

Dispatch board

The dispatch board is a visual planner for allocating jobs to technicians across the day. Instead of clicking through individual job records to assign and schedule, the dispatcher drags unscheduled work onto a technician's lane at a specific time and both the assignment and scheduled time are set in one action.

Accessible from Jobs > Dispatch board.

Layout

  • Left rail, Unscheduled queue: every job that has no scheduled time or no assigned technician. New customer bookings arrive here; jobs rescheduled off the board return here.

  • Right, Technician lanes × hour slots: one row per active technician, with hour columns from 06:00 to 20:00. Each technician's capacity bar shows how many jobs they have today against their configured max.

  • Top, Date navigator: previous day / today / next day buttons. The board shows a single day at a time.

Scheduling a job

Drag a card from the unscheduled queue onto a technician row at the desired hour. Dropping the card:

  1. Assigns the technician (with skill-match and capacity warnings if applicable)

  2. Sets the scheduled start time to the top of the target hour

  3. Sets the scheduled end time based on the job's current duration (default 60 minutes)

The job card immediately appears in the technician's lane at the dropped position.

Rescheduling

Drag a scheduled job to a new hour or to a different technician's lane. The move fires the standard reschedule + reassign workflow; activity is logged on the job timeline.

Unassigning

Drag a scheduled job back to the unscheduled queue. Its scheduled time and technician assignment are cleared, but it remains in the queue for re-dispatch.

Priority and status

  • Left stripe on each card shows the priority colour (red = urgent, amber = high, blue = medium, grey = low)

  • Status badge on unscheduled cards shows the current lifecycle state

  • Job number and customer name are visible on scheduled blocks; click a scheduled block to open the full job detail

Capacity bar

Each technician's capacity bar turns:

  • Green: under 60% of daily capacity

  • Amber: 60-90%, approaching full

  • Red: 90-100%, at or over capacity

This is a visual warning. The dispatcher can still allocate additional jobs; capacity is guidance, not a hard block.

What the dispatch board does not cover (yet)

On the roadmap:

  • Week view

  • Availability overlays (working hours, holidays, existing calendar events)

  • Live technician location on the board

  • Drive-time-aware auto-scheduling

  • Real-time updates when another dispatcher reschedules

For now, the board shows the single-day view and requires a manual refresh if someone else changes a schedule elsewhere.
